Sometimes you have stones with part of the foil backing already chipped off, and they would look better if it was all off. Sometimes, you need to match existing stones with no foil -- in which case, you want to remove the foil backing on your rhinestones. Soak the stones in vinegar and salt and that's it. In a couple of hours, all the foil was removed from brand new stones that I needed to have unfoiled. Any stubborn spot of foil left - let soak longer or rub gently with a mild cleanser such as Simechrome.
