Metals tarnish, which is to say, they oxide. Except gold, and that is one of its wonderful properties. So, assuming not everything you own is made of gold, here are some tarnish removing tips. Brass -- cleans up wonderfully with ketchup. Vinegar works well too. Ketchup clings and works well on large surfaces, i.e. plaques. Silver -- forget those fancy plates they sell you at trade shows, you can get exactly the same effect with hot water, baking soda, and aluminum foil. The water must be hot, the silver must be clean, a handful of baking soda will do, and some clean aluminum foil. It sets up a chemical reaction and the tarnish moves to the foil. Discard the foil and the solution afterwards.
