Born and raised in Texas, artist BeeGee McBride has had a diverse background in and out of the field of designing. She attended Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, studying Fashion, Art and Design and working in Neiman Marcus during an internship in the late 1960's.
Leaving TCU prior to graduation to marry and start her family, Bee Gee eventually ended up in Denver, Colorado where she studied and worked at the Community College of Denver. Ms. McBride returned to her home state in the late 1970's and along with husband, John Borgstrom opened their first antique store.
During the 1980's and early 90's, BeeGee taught painting classes to tourists and winter Texans who came to Port Aransas on vacation. Port Aransas is situated on a barrier island along the Texas coast and John and BeeGee publish the oldest Texas Gulf Coast monthly fishing newspaper there, The South Texas Fishing News.
After opening an antique store 1996, BeeGee has concentrated her efforts on collecting and selling vintage jewelry, accessories, linens and smalls in her small, eclectic store. She particularly loves vintage costume jewelry and developed an internet website and store in early 1997, The South Texas Trading Company. Since that time BeeGee has been a registered member of Jewelcollect, a member of the Vintage, Fashion, and Costume Jewelry club and a local lecturer and show woman for her vintage jewelry.
BeeGee had designed a few pieces of jewelry, but in the summer of 2000, a shipment of vintage rhinestone chains arrived on her doorstep on the same day that a shipment of Christmas tree blanks came in — and the rest as they say is “history.” In the same way as the Hershey's Reese's Pieces were born, these two shipments just shouted to be put together — and so they have! The results can be seen at the Christmas Tree Forest. Please drop by for a visit. Each tree is one of a kind and signed BG.
