In
college I used to buy and re-sell inexpensive costume jewelry.
The quality was not very good and I never used to feel very
good about it. I often would make repairs on the jewelry.
I
found that I was quite good at it and really enjoyed it a lot more
than selling it. Because I had to have supplies to make repairs,
I soon found myself playing around and making my own designs.
Little did I know that one day I would be making my living at it!
I love the Victorian period and tend to emulate that period a lot
in my designs.
Now
instead of selling junk, I sell jewelry-making components and my
own designs.
Recently,
I started a new venture. After all those years of tracking down
parts and supplies for first repairing, then creating my own jewelry,
I've decided to bring that expertise to the web. Partnered with
my mother, we've opened our own online web store (The
Jool Pad). We're selling components, stones, filigree, rhinestone
chain and all sorts of necessary items, building a the web site
to do it, working with family and friends, and having a blast —
and still occasionally squeezing in a little design time too!
I really can't
imagine doing anything else.
